Vanessa Perdriau from Blackheath, London, has won The Pitch film competition this year with her short historical drama The Widow’s Last.
28 year old Vanessa pitched her film idea, set during the Irish potato famine, to a panel of five industry judges at Pinewood Film Studios during the competition finals on 16th and 17th January 2016.
Her story explores a woman’s journey from hopelessness and devastation to restoration and purpose. The Widow’s Last is about a destitute widow who stumbles across her last chance to save her sick son. Based on the biblical story of Elijah, it explores the widow’s journey and wrestles with the paradox that in giving we gain.
Vanessa has won a cash production budget of £25K, with production support on top, to deliver The Widow's Last. She will go to Hollywood and meet a host of industry professionals who will give her feedback on her completed film.
Runners up this year were Paris Zarcilla and Hannah Lee who have both won production budgets of £2.5K to help bring their ideas to reality.
