Description

In a serene Cornish village, a sweet, naive Priest is beloved for his gentle nature and habit of sharing confessions with fellow priests. One fateful day, a man enters the confessional, not to confess but to reveal a revolutionary idea. The idea, though kept secret from the audience, is so astounding that the Priest immediately vomits upon hearing it. Consumed by the idea, the Priest becomes unable to eat or sleep. Desperate for relief, he confides in his trusted friend, who reacts with fury and distress upon hearing it. This reaction intensifies the Priest\'s obsession as he begins plotting the idea on his wall, trying to understand its implications. His life starts to unravel, the weight of the concept growing unbearable as he realizes its potential to change humanity\'s course forever. The situation takes a dire turn when the police arrive to inform the Priest that his friend has mysteriously vanished, leaving behind a cryptic note about an idea. The officers demand that the Priest disclose the idea, sensing its significance. Upon hearing it, one officer collapses in a faint while the other suffers a mental breakdown, proceeding to shower fully clothed. In his distressed state, the priest confesses to the Bishop, insisting that the idea must be known, but the Bishop resolutely refuses and attempts to expel him from the church. Amidst this chaos, the Priest receives an urgent phone call from the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister, alarmed by the situation, is flying in by helicopter, citing national security concerns. He arrives at the church accompanied by aides and security personnel, all of whom are wearing earmuffs to prevent any accidental exposure to the idea. The Prime Minister, with a sense of dire urgency, demands to hear the idea from the Priest. Reluctantly, the Priest reveals the idea, and in an instant, the Prime Minister\'s head explodes. The chaos culminates with security chasing the Priest through the church and its grounds. In a desperate attempt to evade capture, he quickly scrawls the idea down and shows it to various people, causing immediate reactions that momentarily distract his pursuers. Despite his efforts, he is eventually caught and detained. A month later, the Priest is locked in a shipping container, under the watchful eye of a stern military general who demands he transcribe the idea for military use. Begrudgingly, the Priest hands over a fake version of the idea. The general, underwhelmed, leaves in disappointment. Alone once more, the Priest begins to hum the true idea to himself. Vocalizing it unleashes its profound power, leading him to levitate. This supernatural event signifies his transcendence and the ultimate, mysterious power of the idea that others sought to control but could not fully comprehend.

Biblical Connection

The Biblical source for this story is Revelation 10:9. In this passage, John receives a scroll from an angel, consumes it, and experiences it as sweet in his mouth but bitter in his stomach. This duality symbolizes the complex nature of divine revelation—both enlightening and troubling. In adapting Revelation 10:9, the story centers on a naive Priest who learns a revolutionary idea during confession. Initially, the idea evokes awe and fascination, akin to the sweetness of the scroll. However, the idea\'s profound impact causes chaos and distress, reflecting the bitterness John feels. As the Priest grapples with the idea, he faces intense scrutiny and danger, mirroring the trials of John. Ultimately, the Priest’s supernatural levitation signifies a transformation through profound knowledge, paralleling John’s significant spiritual experience. This adaptation explores the powerful and often unsettling nature of profound truths, maintaining the core themes of the Biblical passage.
