Description

Based on a true story. Three friends are reunited with a young man who has come out of a child behavioural rehabilitation centre and back into the same Nairobi slum streets he left as a child. He is faced with a choice, in the face of a battle for survival; to follow the same paths as his three friends, who have fallen down dark roads; through alcohol, stealing and gangs or to choose what is right and fight to save this friends. When life gets desperate, will he rub off on them, or will they drag him in? We would shoot this in a Nomadland style, using actors interacting with the real world of Majengo, Kenya. This story is a true story, as mentioned about, and the man who we are using would be co-directing it with me, as it was the case for the short promo. This constant tension between what is right, in the framework of such poverty and frustration, makes the story have real conflict, with each character having real reason behind their choices, showing that the seed is scattered from the same hand.

Biblical Connection

“A sower went out to sow his seed. And as he sowed, some fell along the path and was trampled underfoot, and the birds of the air devoured it [ALCOHOL]. And some fell on the rock, and as it grew up, it withered away, because it had no moisture [STEALING]. And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up with it and choked it [GANGS]. And some fell into good soil and grew and yielded a hundredfold.” Each of the different soil types represents a person in the story. Yet, as with the Biblical parable, there is hope for us all, and as such our main character is not only representing the good soil is, shown by the choices he makes and the ability to yield fruit (through his friends), but also that Jesus saves, and that despite our circumstances, we are never beyond salvation. Dennis used the expression of these moments in his past all being like seeds that became the trees, and this verse clicked for me. The different lines and their equivalent traits are picked for certain reasons tying to your survival rate within Majengo, but are not fixed.
