Description

Naimh Sharp by name and nature, goes through the bright, shiny, cartoony world with her swords on her back ready at all times to meet attacks with the precise violence of her blade. It\'s how she was raised, comedy as the defence. She meets Cariad who is dressed in a ridiculous number of brightly coloured chunky knit cardigans who pays her the first true, unabashed kind and pure compliment she has ever had. Cariad wraps a huge oversized jumper around her shoulders. Naimh reacts immediately with her swords, ready and poised, one of the swords cutting straight through the jumper and into Cariad. Cariad blinks slightly. The sword has sunk a little way into her layers of wool but hasn\'t penetrated at all. She gently persuades Naimh to sheath her swords and takes out some brightly coloured chunky wool and shows Naimh how to fix the tears in the jumper.Cariad and Naimh encounter an old lady in the street who looks cold and sad. Cariad presents her with a chunky knit cardigan, Naimh has drawn her big knife. Cariad shakes her head, Naimh shakes her head too, getting the hang of this and puts her knife away. She buttons up the cardigan on the old lady. Naimh takes Cariad to meet her family. Mr and Mrs Sharp and Sharp Junior greets them both and leads them into dinner, little knives wedged in his back. Naimh\'s family take it in turns to stab each other with the cutlery. Mrs Sharp has a particular knife she wears with pride, this particular wound has come to define her. From time to time she stabs herself with it, enjoying the drama. Cariad takes it all in. Naimh\'s jumper is by this time a multi coloured patchwork. Cariad asks The Wrong question, and Naimh explodes, her swords flashing and wool everywhere. She stops, panting, and picks up all the scraps from the destroyed jumper and holds them out to Cariad. Cariad has only a very thin cardigan on, a few patches it in, shakes her head, not this time. This time it can\'t be repaired. Alone now, Naimh sits in the ruins of the jumper, and a new giant sized ball of Extra Strong wool, attempting to knit a new jumper with her knives. She has an epiphany and returns to her family, trying to explain about knitwear. Mrs Sharp dramatically stabs herself in the chest, but Naimh gently helps her take the knife out and dresses her in a truly crap jumper. She drags her into the dustiest corner of the attic and digs out an old forgotten pair of wooden knitting needles. The Sharp family all sit together now, uncomfortable suspicious grins of the newly vulnerable wearing dreadful much-patched knitwear, with many rents and tears and a few cheerful knives are exchanged. The blades are much shorter now, and Naimh adds more jumpers to Mrs Sharp so the blades can\'t penetrate. Mrs Sharp puts crocheted animals on the ends of her blades.

Biblical Connection

I’ve used a verse from Proverbs, chapter twelve verse eighteen – and taking the words literally. I will create a live action anime style film where the cruel words ARE knives, and the words of wisdom heal with a cosy cardigan of kindness. The Knife (Naimh) and the Cardigan (Cariad) teach each other about balance.
