Beat 1: Mae (MC, 29, female) is called up to the stand in court. She steadies herself, opens her mouth to speak then we cut. Beat 3: Mae is no longer in uniform, she is in the pub with 3 male colleagues, sipping pints. She opens a bill, it is a final warning from a care home, threatening action if a bill isn\'t paid. She calls the home to speak to her mum, they pressure her about the debt.Beat 5: Mae opens her laptop, looking at her bank balance again. She then hesitantly opens Only Fans on her laptop, she has forgotten her password. Beat 11: Mae reads her statement in court, explaining why she did what she did, that she regrets it\'s outcome, we realise she is suing Jason for revenge porn.
John 8 vs 1 - 11 This verse captures Jesus\' forgiving soul, allowing someone a life of freedom. I find there are many conversations around sex in the Bible, and the shame in them mostly projects towards women. As a Christian, I find sex an uncomfortable topic to discuss with others due to this. With there being so much history of media using women\'s bodies to sell products, and having experienced day to day life as a women where you get cat called, touched by strangers, comments on your body for just existing, this all makes me drawn to the woman being shamed in this verse. Mae is the adulterer, her colleagues are the fellow sinners. This isn\'t a story shaming Mae, but highlighting the fellow sinners shaming each other. I want to capture this woman\'s story, being shamed for her actions of a sexual nature. Given history of brutality in the police towards women, I thought this would be a great avenue to explore. I am sure the adulterer had reasons for her choices in this verse, I want the audience to see Mae\'s. This film should explore our relationship with sin and shame, opposed to shaming Mae.
